This rare event occurs after twelve cycles of the 12-year Purna Kumbh Mela and is held exclusively at Prayagraj, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers. According to Vedic scriptures, during the cosmic churning of the milk ocean, a few drops of the divine nectar of immortality fell on four sacred places, making them spiritually charged. These locations are now the hosts of the Kumbh Mela.
Pilgrims bathe in the holy rivers at auspicious times to cleanse sins and acquire punya (spiritual merit). Beyond the rituals, Kumbh Mela provides a rare opportunity for sat-sanga—association with saintly persons. By serving and hearing from them, participants can deepen their spiritual knowledge and devotion.
